Matthews’ Painting Introduces the POPP Standard: A Better Way to Protect Your Home During Painting Projects
September 9, 2026A fresh coat of paint can completely change a room, but sometimes there’s quite a bit of work to do before the first coat ever goes on.
That was the case with this recent Columbia City interior project. From wallpaper removal and wall repairs to ceiling work and a water stain, this home gave our team an opportunity to put the Matthews’ Painting POPP (Protection of Personal Property) process to work.
And as we head into interior season, it’s a great example of why fall and winter can be the perfect time to tackle more than just a color change inside your home.
More Than a New Paint Color
Before painting could begin, our crew removed wallpaper and repaired stress cracks and other imperfections in the walls. Areas where wallpaper had been removed were then primed.
The team also removed and repaired loose corner tape where the ceiling and wall met and re textured the repaired area.
In the living room, a water stain on the ceiling required additional attention. We applied a stain-blocking primer and then color-matched and spot-painted the area where the stain had been.
Once the prep and repairs were complete, the project moved on to painting. The walls, window trim, front door and sidelights, and baseboard trim all received two coats of paint.

Interior Season Is Here
As summer winds down and more time is spent indoors, homeowners naturally start noticing the rooms they’ve been meaning to update. Maybe it’s outdated wallpaper you’ve lived with for years, walls showing everyday wear, cracks or imperfections that need attention, or simply a color that no longer feels like you.
Fall is also a good time to start thinking ahead to the holidays. Taking care of interior projects now means one less thing on the list when calendars start filling with gatherings, guests and celebrations.
And as this Columbia City project shows, you don’t necessarily need to know exactly what every wall needs before calling us. That’s part of what our team is there to help determine.
