Understanding Paint Finishes: Choosing the Perfect Sheen for your Project.
May 19, 2025As the warmer months arrive and outdoor chores pile up, Matthews’ Painting Company is proud to continue its Matthew 5:16 Community Service Project—a free home safety service known as “Stay Off the Ladder.” Designed specifically for local senior citizens and disabled veterans, the program aims to prevent injuries by taking care of essential home maintenance tasks—so vulnerable residents don’t have to climb ladders or risk falls.
Founded on the belief that good business includes giving back, this initiative reflects the heart of Matthews’ Painting’s mission. Inspired by Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” — the program is part of an ongoing commitment to serve the community that has trusted them for over 25 years.
What Is the “Stay Off the Ladder” Program?
Launched approximately two years ago, Stay Off the Ladder is a free community service offered to eligible Kosciusko County residents.
It is available to:
- Seniors aged 65 and older
- Disabled U.S. military veterans of any age
The goal is to handle small, ladder-based home tasks that pose serious safety risks—allowing participants to stay safe and comfortable in their homes.
According to the CDC, falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among adults over age 65. Every year, over 3 million seniors visit emergency rooms for fall-related injuries—many of them caused by tasks like changing light bulbs, cleaning gutters, or replacing batteries in hard-to-reach smoke detectors.
Matthews’ Painting is stepping in to reduce that risk—one task at a time.
Spring & Summer Services (May–October)
As outdoor maintenance ramps up, the Matthews’ Painting team is focusing on seasonal safety support, including:
- Clearing tree limbs and debris from rooftops
- Gutter cleaning
- Replacing hard-to-reach outdoor flood lights
These seemingly minor tasks can create major hazards for seniors and individuals with limited mobility. By lending a hand, Matthews’ Painting ensures these residents can enjoy the season—without worry.
Year-Round Safety Support (January–December)
The help doesn’t stop when the seasons change. Stay Off the Ladder also offers indoor safety services throughout the year, such as:
- Replacing smoke alarm and CO detector batteries
- Replacing A/C filters
- Swapping out hard-to-reach light bulbs
- Cleaning ceiling fans and bathroom exhaust fans
- …and More!
Why It Matters
As spring blooms and home projects begin, Matthews’ Painting reminds residents that there’s no shame in asking for help—and that help is here.
“Stay Off the Ladder is more than a program—it’s a chance to help care for our community,” says Jason Matthews, owner of Matthews’ Painting. “We believe in honoring the people who helped build our community, and served our country. This is way we can help lighten the load. If climbing a ladder puts someone at risk, we’re happy to step in—because peace of mind is priceless.”
