15 years ago marked the beginning of the company. Back then, the business was comprised of myself and one other individual. There was a magnetic sign stuck on my family mini van that read “Matthews Painting Company.”
Like most business owners, I still remember getting my very first client. It was on a day when I was going through area neighborhoods hanging our advertisements on door handles (something I would routinely do throughout the area back then). Moments after walking away from one home, a man came outside approaching me quickly. He asked if I was the one who left the flyer and then proceeded to tell me that he and his wife had just been praying that they would find someone that could help point them in the direction of painting services they needed. What an excitement and relief that was, my first job. It took about 500 flyers walking many miles to get one job and boy did my legs feel it.
On the 15th anniversary, it’s exciting to know that Matthews Painting is busier than ever before with a larger team of painters, 8-10 employees, who are held to the highest standards. People make it a point to let us know that they see our trademark vans all over the area cruising to and from jobsites. Rarely does a week go by without hearing “we see your vans everywhere”. Most of our business comes from referrals, people that went out of their way to recommend painting, deck maintenance or other services to those close to them.
While the business has encountered challenges like most others, we’ve strived to uphold one simple rule since day one: stick to what you know you are the best at and service your customers like crazy. I’d like to believe that this is one of the main reasons that has allowed Matthew’s Painting to grow, thrive and develop a returning business. From the beginning we set out to pursue the mastery of our craft and that lead us to years of great relationships and a lot of fun as well.
