In our line of work, there’s nothing quite like helping homeowners create the perfect serene environment for a baby’s room. Whether it’s prepping the room for the arrival of the family’s newest member or simply revamping the existing room with a splash of new color, it’s always a positive experience. Some of the most common inquiries we receive about these rooms are in regards to acceptable gender neutral paint choices. Because some colors can be attached to certain moods and feelings, we decided to share some nursery paint color selections that encourage peaceful environments.
Greens
Yes, really! Soft and forest colored greens are both great gender neutral choices for any nursery. These paint colors capture a calming spring time feel, while proving to be our favorite “unexpected” nursery colors. And because the rooms also tend to be home to many different types of stuffed animals, the calming paint color can easily help the room take on fun jungle or rainforest themes if desired.
Aqua
Although various blues were traditionally associated with boy’s rooms, there are fun shades of blue that come with zero connotations. Aqua blue is a great example of a color that transforms throughout the day to suit the mood. It brightens up with sunlight in the afternoon and darkens in the evening to help encourage sleep. Just like greens, aqua is great for those who love the idea of transforming rooms with various themes. An underwater destination awaits!
Yellow
Particular shades of yellow are commonly recognized as being one of the most ideal paint colors for a nursery. There are a few general guidelines for achieving a “baby friendly” color. The shade of paint should not be too bold or bright as it could be unsettling and disruptive to nap time. Also, choosing soft pastel versions of yellow and avoiding anything too cream colored seems to be the sweet spot.
