3 Things that Great Homes Have

Throughout my experiences, I have found that many people take pride in certain parts of their houses. These areas often become host to social gatherings, hobbies and the great memories that come along with them. Every homeowner has a special area in their home in which they look forward to spending time in. Here are a few in particular that I’ve encountered repeatedly over the years.

The Activity Room

Whether this room is referred to as the “man cave” or even a family room, Indiana homeowners know how to design a room for activities. Often times these multi-purpose rooms serve as a sanctuary for the people to relax after work, play games or entertain guests. Whatever the function, these rooms have paint colors that match the mood and the general purpose. We’ve been told time and again that because these colors have psychological value, selections can actually influence and encourage certain feelings.

In addition to blending the paint to likes and personalities, many people focus on the frequent activities in the room to help decide. For example, theater rooms are becoming increasingly popular for homeowners. Because darker rooms tend to create a more intimate effect, these paints are popular selections for these rooms. Additionally, darker colors make rooms seem smaller, thus potentially making that big screen seem even bigger.

Sometimes a simple room to relax and read is the answer for many people. I tend to recommend light and medium blues to people that are redoing a room. Blue paints are known for bringing down blood pressure, slowing respiration and also heart rate. The result is a room that is calming and serene, making a great place to unwind with a book after a long day.

These types of rooms have proved to be extremely valuable for homeowners, offering a comforting place to retreat or gather. The key for many folks has been creating an environment that reflects their personality and interests. It just so happens that color plays a tremendously role in creating that identity.

Summer Deck

One of the great things about living in Indiana is knowing families who grill out all through winter. Not surprisingly, these are some of the same people who take summer entertaining and deck presentation very seriously. These outdoor gatherings generally mean that there will be children playing around the area waiting to eat dinner or for adults to finish talking and bring out some ice cream. Some of most impressive garages I’ve seen are expertly manicured from inside out. While an entire overhaul can be a costly operation, quick touches can be enough to liven the exterior. For instance, garage doors see a lot of wear and tear naturally, being exposed to seasonal weather. Consider having the garage door painted and add a new clean dynamic to the exterior.
