Painting the Floor: A Creative Option for Wood
November 5, 2015Bathroom Painting Tips to Power Up your Painting
January 13, 2016At Matthews Painting, our professional painters work pretty hard to make sure you never, ever see a paint holiday. That’s because, as most people in the industry know, “paint holiday” refers to those places you miss when you’re using a roller and leave accidental spots on the wall where you skipped. But what if we turned the meaning of “paint holiday” into the perfect opportunity to create beautiful experiences and useful spaces instead? We’ve listed a few paint holiday gift ideas here – for pets, for cycling enthusiasts, for kids and adults alike – that create opportunities for fun family projects with impacts that last all year. Great news for our Goshen, Indiana and Columbia City, Indiana customers.
Blackboards: If you’re ready for a new look in the kids’ room or a playroom, pick up some chalkboard paint! It’s almost always in black, although there are color and do-it-yourself options, and it’s a great way to update a space for creative little hands who’ve grown beyond their nursery décor. Lots of people use it in kitchens or hallways to create a message center too, which is likely to make mom happy. If you’re crafty, chalkboard paint can be used to make lots of things, from erasable slates that keep kids busy on that long over-the-river drive to grandmother’s house, to game table tops or personalized mugs.
Invisible Paint: This is so much fun, we caught Jason Matthews playing outside in the parking lot with it. No, not really – but paints that you see only when it rains are popular in urban street-art projects, and they can be used at home too, if you or your kids are looking for a little magic. Rain Works and the Rust-Oleum NeverWet brands go on clear but reveal secret messages or whimsical artwork when wet. Pair the paint with some creative stencils and you’ve got an inexpensive art project. Better still, NeverWet is designed as a strong repellent for fabrics, and for exterior surfaces, so it can be as useful as it is fun!
Pet Paint: There are plenty of dogs that will never sit still for this, including at least one we know. But some love it, and there are safe “pet paint” options for Halloween costumes, Fourth of July parades, St. Patrick’s Day parties and other times when you might want to include your pet in the festivities. The PetPaint product is temporary, safe and washes off with soap and water – so if you want to paint some snowflakes on the cat, you can! And it’s not all about the novelty with pet-friendly paints. The ECOS Pet Paints are designed to keep all pets safe when you paint in a house where pets live. These also can be used to paint the dog kennels, chicken coops, bird cages or reptile houses that your pets call home.
Reflective Bikes: Do you have a bicycle enthusiast on your gift list? With more people riding bikes for exercise – or to reduce their carbon footprint – safety gear is a must, but few people think about paint. Lumen is one option for a bicycle frame that’s painted to light up the same way that road signs or pavement markings do when headlights hit it. The easy-to-use LifePaint spray for bikes does that too, and is available for clothing so that bikers and pedestrians alike light up in traffic. There’s even a version for horses and pets who might wander at night that, like PetPaint, is temporary and washes off easily.
Glow in the Dark: You can create stars on the ceiling, wall murals and more, with a creative touch that you can apply to a media room or a master bedroom – the glow in the dark paints aren’t just for kids! There are plenty of paint options available at craft stores, department stores and home improvement centers. If you want to make it yourself, there are phosphorescent powders to mix into your project. That’s true for similar blacklight paints, for a retro look in teen rooms or that throwback feel for Dad.
Have any questions? Call us at Matthews Painting, and we’ll go get Jason from his lava-lamp Neon Rave office and he’ll be happy to help! All fun aside, we’re happy to help with the stocking-stuffer ideas, or any winter interior painting needs you have now. We wish you the best this holiday season and in the coming year!
